BOOK BACKGROUND:  The First Thirty by Jillip Naysinthe Paxson (and expanded version The Silhouette Man) is based on the true story of Greg Forbes Siegman, his efforts to make a difference, and the first thirty lessons learned along the way.  Art is a prominent running theme in the book.  Specifically, the book details Greg's lifelong desire to be an artist, what he learned from art, and how the lessons learned from art can apply to life in general.   The book highlights different forms of art such as Drawing (ie portraits), Outsider Art and Corporate Design (ie creating a logo).   The book also examines the impact of other segments of the Arts (such as Film and Books) and how they can inspire and influence our lives. There is also a workbook (A Place To Sit) based on the book.  There are sections within it revolving around Books, Films, Art and Creativity.

REAL-LIFE BACKGROUND:  In real life, Greg has three art collections. The best known is My Sleepless Nights, which features historical, contemporary and cinematic figures who inspire us to think, to act, to give, to serve and to lead.  Art World News called the portraits a 'tribute to diversity'.  Greg's art has been on exhibit around the world. He now gets invited to speak to students about the field of Art.  In 2008, he received the Portraits in Humanity Award - given to someone who has used the arts to make a difference.

SAMPLE OF FEEDBACK FROM GREG'S SPEECHES &/OR BOOKS &/OR MEDIA &/OR OF GREG'S ART:

The Washington Post Co:  "The legacies of Greg Forbes Siegman and Steven Spielberg are the people they have helped and the lessons and images they have brought to life."

"...The drawings looked like black and white photos!...They captured the intensity of these respected individuals; incorporating with each portrait, Greg's embrace of each characters' significant role in our past society to make a difference in our future..." - Deadre, U of C Hospitals

"It was wonderful.  I really appreciated Greg's approach -- giving them the background to the story and discussing art's applications to life before he showed them the drawings.  The logo project he came up with will be something that can be done in class and discussed long after his appearance." - Mr Fahey, High school Art Chair

"The First Thirty is a moving portrait of a man who treats life as art and created a masterpiece by helping others realize their dreams." - Art World News

"Greg has turned overcoming obstacles into an art form." - Marvin Bartlett, Fox 56 Kentucky
